D22-soso vs. Shin_Ju_Young
Battleground:

THE LOST TEMPLE

Match One

Players:
D22-soso - PROTOSS - Bottom Center
Shin_Ju_Young - ZERG - Center Right

Game Length: 29:45

When both of the generals arrived to marshal their armies, D22-soso opted to wage war on the oft fought upon battleground of the Lost Temple. Both of the players seemed to be uncaring as to what race fate gave to them when they selected random, but at the last moment Shin_Ju_Young elected to command the Zerg horde. When the players appeared, D22-soso found himself in command of a Protoss Nexus in the bottom center of the battlefield and Shin_Ju_Young in the upper right.

Both of the players commenced building harvesters at a furious pace. Shin_Ju_Young only slowed down on his 8th drone to construct a second Hatchery at his low ground expansion and shortly thereafter a Spawning Pool. Meanwhile the Protoss warp in a Pylon and a Gateway to facilitate the invasion of Zealots and Dragoons that were soon to arrive. By the time D22-soso finished his Assimilator, he already had produced the first of several Zealots who would guard the crucial ramp into his main base. The probe that he sent out scouting did not take long to discover Shin_Ju_Young's base and the second Hatchery that was already being built within.

D22-soso scored the first blood of the struggle when his Zealots, guarding the ramp to his base, slaughtered a group of Shin_Ju_Young's attacking Zerglings. Unworried by this setback, Shin begins evolving a Hydralisk Den and gathering a mass of voracious Zerglings outside his expansion. At the same time soso makes a mad scramble up the Tech Tree by building a 2nd Gateway, Cybernetics Core and Citadel of Adun while amassing his own lethal phalanx of Zealots. This gathering of units could not go unanswered, and Shin_Ju_Young gathers even more Zerglings outside his base with a slithering mass of Hydralisks to back them up.

Unwilling to let his motley horde sit around for long, Shin_Ju_Young sends them to the expansion below soso's base and tries to lure the defending Zealots down out of their lofty defensive positions, but to no avail. Realizing the danger of staying on low ground beneath an enemy likely to be making Templar, his horde soon moves back to a spot nearer his creep filled base. The retreat was indeed a wise move, as soso finishes his Templar Archives and begins building a few of the psychic warriors of the Protoss, the High Templar.

Once again unwilling to let his newly reinforced horde of Hydralisks sit and gather slime for long, Shin_Ju_Young sends them in to soso's expansion area. There his forces are met on the field of battle by a sizable group of Zealot warriors. Hydralisk blood begins to stain the ground red as the Zealots force the Hydras back to whence they came. With the ground fertilized with so much Zerg blood, soso builds a Nexus on his low ground expansion along with a number of Photon Cannons throughout his expansion and main base. Soso then sends out a Dark Templar to attack Shin_Ju_Young's Hydralisks, but an overlord spots the cloaked assassin and the Hydralisks retreat in panic to just outside of Shin_Ju_Young's expansion. Shin_Ju_Young's Overlords are also simultaneously forced to retreat, as a Corsair begins to hunt them down and the Zerg command of the air comes to a close.

The tides are beginning to look grim for the Zerg horde, but this may just be a trick of the light as large groups of Hydralisks gather with nearly a dozen Overlords also converging on their location. Two dozen lethal Hydralisks slither aboard their Overlord masters and move into position just outside the massive plateau that houses the Protoss main base. Shin_Ju_Young then fiendishly sends Hydralisks on a suicide run at the phalanx of Zealot defenders guarding the Protoss low ground expansion, hoping that this will mask his main assault of twenty four hydralisks directly into the heart of D22-soso's main base. D22-soso's second sense kicks in as he senses the lethal deception. As the Overlords unload their deadly cargo of Hydralisks the defending Templar are already unleashing their storms of psionic energy upon the temporarily vulnerable Hydralisks. In a blink of an eye the battle is over and there is little left of the attacking Hydralisks but a few red smears on the ground leaving grim testimony to the power of the High Templar. Zealots returning from the melee of the failed diversionary attack quickly dispatch the few remaining Hydralisks.

With the demise of the main Zerg force the Corsairs begin to hunt the Overlords in earnest, and the Overlords are driven from their scouting positions. D22-soso also builds a Nexus at a second nearby expansion and the resources really start pouring in. With this new influx of wealth a large force of Archons, Zealots and Dragoons backed by High Templar is amassed, while on the other side of a map a host of Hydralisks gathers. At last D22-soso decides the time is right to strike and his Protoss legions heads straight for the Zerg main base. This force is undeterred by the Hydralisks that stand in its way and with the help of Psionic Storm, the legion continues on unabated to the Zerg main base. By the time they reach the main base, there are no defenders left and the blades of the Zealots rapidly cut through the flesh of the Zerg buildings leaving nothing left standing. Shin_Ju_Young's Zerg do not admit defeat, but it does not take long for every last Zerg building to be knocked to the ground and the Protoss to raise the standard of victory.

THE LOST TEMPLE

Match Two

Players:
D22-soso - PROTOSS - Top Center
Shin_Ju_Young - ZERG - Center Left

Game Length: 31:08

As the two hardened commanders took the field once more, there was a strange sense of déjà vu. Once more the fight would take place on the hallowed fields of the Lost Temple, with Shin_Ju_Young selecting to command the Zerg horde and D22-soso letting fate decide. Just as before the winds of fortune have granted Soso a mighty Protoss war host to lead. Both players would begin their campaigns from different positions with Shin_Ju_Young fighting from the middle left plateau and Soso along the upper edge of the battlefield.

Drones and Probes spring to action and quickly join the ranks. Shin_Ju_Young decides once more that additional larva are needed for the massing of his swarm, and morphs his eighth drone into a Hatchery at the closest set of resources in the valley below his base. He follows this quickly with a Spawning Pool even before he begins to extend his control with any additional Overlords. Soso spends this time creating a necessary Pylon, and then a Gateway to summon his Protoss warriors. As the Spawning Pool in Shin_Ju_Young's base finishes morphing, Shin decides to take a more defensive stance by ordering a nearby drone to evolve into a Sunken Colony to guard his fledgling expansion. He also supplements his larva production with yet another Hatchery, but this one is created on the relative safety of the creep surrounding his main base.

The Protoss commander has Zealot warriors maintaining a vigilant eye on his ramp preparing for an early attack by the voracious Zerglings, but no such attack is forthcoming. Soso uses the time to rapidly swell his burgeoning armies with Dragoons and Zealots, as well as building new base structures to support his effort. A second Gateway, Cybernetics Core, Forge, Citadel of Adun, and Templar Archives all warp into existence in rapid succession.

The reconnaissance effort begins in earnest with a Probe and two Zerglings being designated this duty by their respective commanders. The Zerglings quickly find Soso's base, and the robotic worker finds the enemy creep infestation and reports back moments before being destroyed by a mass of Sunken Colonies now guarding the Zerg base. Now knowing that the Zerg is maintaining a strong defensive rather than offensive posture, soso decides to immediately seek new resources to add to his cache. He chooses the natural secondary position for his Nexus in the gorge below his main base.

With a strong defensive line of Sunken Colonies deterring any ground attack, Shin_Ju_Young is able to rapidly add both a Lair and Queen's Nest to the throbbing mass of structures being nurtured in his creep. The nature of his strategy becomes apparent when seven Queens are rapidly morphed from eggs in quick succession. Shin obviously hopes to use these Queens to blunt the impact of soso's deadly Templar. With the Queens maintaining a vigil over the Zerg base, he then switches production of his larva to Hydralisks. Unimpeded by any attack from the Zerg horde, Soso amasses a large number of Zealots, Dragoons, and Templar from an increasing number of Gateways, and spends considerable time and resources to upgrade the weaponry, speed and range of his warriors.

As soon as a Corsair warps in from his new Stargate, Soso begins to drive away the Overlords who were maintaining a watchful eye nearby. Shin seizes the moment by directing his mass of Hydralisks and Queens towards Soso's expansion. Queens begin to launch their deadly spores at the Protoss warriors guarding the pass, and several Templar, Zealots, and Dragoons are consumed from within by Broodlings. With the Templar eradicated from the area, Shin sends in his Hydralisks to engage the remaining Protoss warriors. The Protoss Zealots spill much Zerg blood, and many brave Zealot warriors lose their lives to the Needle Spines of the Hydralisks. The day is won by the Protoss when reinforcements unknown to Shin race to the battlefield, and the Hydralisks are forced to retreat. Soso presses his advantage and moves his army forward to a position well outside the range of the Sunken Colonies still guarding Shin's base. A deadly air ballet begins between the Protoss Corsairs and the defenseless Queens. Both sides take losses in the battle when the Corsairs are cagily lead over a group of defending Hydralisks.

Soso begins trying to reinforce his forward position outside Shin's base with a Pylon and Photon Cannons, and having firmly seized the initiative of the war decides to expand yet again to the middle left plateau. Several of the Cannons are completed when Shin decides to try and break the hold of this strangling blockade. One of his remaining queens Ensnares a group of Zealots massing near the Cannons with a viscous green mucous, and then the Hydralisks engage the enemy. The Zealots face a massive barrage of needle spines and, slowed by the mucous, cannot move quickly enough to retaliate before many of the noble warriors fall. More Templar explode with Broodlings bursting from their chests and the Photon Cannons are reduced to rubble by the spines of the Hydralisks. It looks grim for the Protoss blockade until reinforcements of Zealots and Templar arrive that were once maintaining watch over soso's main base. Shin's Queens are forced to retreat from the battlefield when more Corsairs enter the fray, and Soso takes the opportunity further expands his web of influence by building another Nexus in the valley below the middle left plateau. Soso now has a clear resource advantage over his Zerg rival.

Shin tries to outflank the Photon Cannons with more Hydralisks, hoping to possibly attack an unguarded expansion of soso's. The attacking Hydralisks are turned back by Photon Cannons along the plateau edge guarding the Protoss expansion, and the Hydralisks are then trapped by a group of Zealots rallied to the defense of the base. Soso's forward army continues to grow rapidly, and soso now adds the fury of the Archon to his force mix knowing that a few Queens still remain with their deadly Broodling spores. The Sunken Colonies are quickly reinforced by ravenous Zerglings with the Adrenal Gland upgrade. After finishing a few more upgrades to the weaponry and armor of his ground troops, soso attacks with a strong force into the heart of Shin's defense. Zerglings pour out into the breach, Psionic Storms crackle from nearby Templar, and a general melee ensues. When the dust settles, all the Sunken Colonies are split open and still Protoss warriors remain. With Shin's defensive line in ruins, the Zealots and Archons begin to methodically eliminate the heart of the Zerg bases. Shin_Ju_Young realizes his situation has become hopeless, and surrenders to the forces of D22-soso.
