Team Liquid regularly features English-language coverage of the Korean professional gaming scene. The website is home to one of the most active StarCraft forums on the Internet. Liquid'NazGul will be putting together the admin team to guide this community throughout the season.
GosuGamers has consistently delivered a high-quality StarCraft scene with detailed tournament coverage in English. Although its roots are in the Swedish StarCraft community, the website is frequented by StarCraft players from across Europe and the Americas. Mazor, GosuGamers' lead site administrator, will be putting together an admin team to guide the GosuGamers.net community team.
BroodWar.de is the biggest German-language StarCraft website on the Internet and serves as a central hub for the large German-speaking Brood War community. The website also hosts special content like StarCraft machinima and "highlight" movies. The admin team of Carnac, GeneralMengsk, NumbSchiller, and Quint will be behind the wheel of the BroodWar.de community team.
We wish both these community websites luck in the upcoming tournament. The remaining six StarCraft Sandlot teams will be announced in the near future.
Eight years after its release, StarCraft continues to rank among the most popular mediums for computer gaming competitions. Over the years, StarCraft has been supported by a large player base; community websites; and enthusiasts who continue to put much time, effort, and energy into the game. We felt there could be no better way to honor this passion than to organize a massive tournament on Battle.net and support the StarCraft community. Gamers across the globe will be able to get directly involved with the Sandlot Tournament, and this gives the world's best players a chance to battle it out for some serious cash.
The Teams
We'll be inviting eight of the most active StarCraft communities on the 'net to rally behind their own purpose-built team for the Sandlot Tournament. Team Captains, each a representative of one of these communities, will be invited to mastermind the strategy behind building their team and guiding his or her crew through the month-long league.
The Players
Dozens of expert players from across the globe will be invited to join the pool of players who will be eligible for the draft. Once all these players are announced and confirmed, we'll call on the StarCraft community to determine each player's mineral value. Through a rating mechanism on the Battle.net website, the community will be able to assign mineral values ranging from 1 to 5 to each of the players. These ratings will be averaged and become each player's "mineral cost."
The Draft
The Team Captains will come together to participate in a draft. Each captain will be given a pool of minerals to purchase individual team members. Teams take turns selecting a player, but are limited by their total pool of minerals. It will be critical for the team captains to identify undervalued players and to know which ones of the famous top players are really worth their high mineral price tags.
The League
When the smoke has cleared and each team has been drafted, the tournament will commence. The teams will be divided into two divisions and play a round robin to determine the division champions. Each weekly matchup will consist of five 1-vs.-1 matches between each team's roster. The top two teams will square off in a grand final showdown for glory, fame, and more...
Glittering Prizes
The event will feature a total prize pool of $20,000. The exact prizes will be announced at a later date, but players in the top two teams will be receiving hard-earned cash.
Furthermore, Blizzard will be sending the winning Team Captain a selection of hardware and other cool merchandise for the StarCraft community they represent to use as giveaways or prizes for their own future contests. A banner congratulating and linking to the winning community will also run on the Battle.net game network for a month following the event.
