The Starcraft Patch
Before you can play Starcraft: Brood War over Battle.net, you must have the full version of Starcraft and
Starcraft: Brood War installed on your hard drive and you must install the latest Starcraft: Brood War patch.
Your copy of Starcraft: Brood War will be automatically updated to the latest version upon login to Battle.net.
If you wish to install the upgrade manually, you may download the latest Starcraft patch at
http://www.blizzard.com/support/information/scpatch.shtml
Copy the most recent patch to your installed Starcraft: Brood War directory (default is c:\program files\Starcraft)
and run the program to update your copy of Starcraft: Brood War to the latest version.
Connecting to Battle.net
Once you have finished installing Starcraft: Brood War, you should connect to Battle.net and create your account
immediately. If your computer system is configured with Internet access via a network or is setup to automatically
dial your ISP, then you should be ready to proceed.
If your computer is not setup as stated above, you will need to establish a connection to your Internet Service
Provider ("ISP") or the Internet before proceeding to step 1.
STEP 1: Log onto the Internet through your ISP.
STEP 2: Launch Starcraft: Brood War within the Windows interface. Click on START, PROGRAMS, then
STARCRAFT. Select Starcraft: Brood War (as applicable) and launch the game.
STEP 3: Choose MULTIPLAYER at the main selection interface. Choose BATTLE.NET to log onto the Battle.net game
network. If you are not connected to the Internet already, and your system is setup to connect automatically,
your system will dial up your ISP and establish an Internet connection. If your computer is not setup as stated
above, you will need to establish a connection to ISP or the Internet before proceeding.
STEP 4: The logon screen will be presented for you to sign onto Battle.net. If you have not created your account
on Battle.net yet, click on the "new account" button and create it now. If you already have a Battle.net account
for Starcraft or Starcraft: Brood War, you can use your existing Unique User ID and Password. You should now be
signed onto Battle.net and presented with a list of chat channels to select from to find opponents to play against.
