Chris_Low vs. +illusia+
Battleground:

THE LOST TEMPLE

Match One

Players:
Chris_Low - ZERG - Center Left
+illusia+ - PROTOSS - Top Center

Game Length: 20:31

In the first game both players elected to choose their races with Chris_Low commanding the repulsive Zerg and +illusia+ the proud Protoss. Upon planetfall Chris_Low found himself in the bottom center of the map with +illusia+ directly across from him in the top center position. +illusia+ begins by building a pair of Gateways and a number of Probes in what looks like preparation for a devastating early Zealot rush while shortly thereafter sending out a Probe to seek out the Zerg. Chris_Low on the other hand goes for an immediate expansion on the low ground outside his base in what looks like a dangerous gamble given that the Zealots are already beginning to gather on the ramp that guards +illusia+'s town. Chris_Low then builds a Sunken Colony to guard his expansion and begins his production of voracious Zerglings when his Spawning Pool finishes while +illusia+ concentrates on building a sizable forces of Zealots.

Meanwhile, Chris_Low discovers +illusia+'s base with his Overlord and sees his two Gateways already up and the third that is near completion and sends a pack of Zerglings to just below +illusia+'s ramp that leads up to his base. +illusia+ sends out a force of noble Zealots and the craven Zerglings flee back to the protective safety of their Sunken Colony. At about this time +illusia+ discovers Chris_Low's base with his searching probe. Chris_Low begins to make a large swarm of Hydralisks while +illusia+ builds his low ground expansion and begins to amass a host of powerful Dragoons.

Both of the players then mass their forces near +illusia+'s town and after a brief moment of tranquility, the armies collide in a violent clash of chitin and bone in the battle that would eventually determine the victor. The attacking Hydralisks and Zerglings are able to crush the overmatched Zealots and Dragoons. The victorious dozen Hydralisks do not try to press the advantage by taking the battle to the main town, but instead choose to flatten +illusia+'s secondary mining colony. Showing the skill that got him to the tournament +illusia+ executes a dangerous maneuver and is able to hold the ramp to his base against the Hydralisks by using the high ground advantage and rotating his three remaining Dragoons such that the wounded ones are always protected.

Unfortunately for +illusia+, Chris_Low now has him penned in to his own base and proceeds to build two more expansions gaining him a huge stockpile pile of minerals and the precious vespene gas. Not content to stand idly by, +illusia+ is building the mysterious Templar and then uses Dragoons and Zealots backed with the power of Psionic Storm to smash his way out of the Hydralisks blockade on his base. Once free of the Zerg blockage, +illusia+ he rebuilds his expansion and commences production of Dark Templar in a desperate attempt to salvage a victory.

Chris_Low dispatches a flock of Mutalisks to destroy +illusia+'s Probe stream. The vile Mutalisks wreak havoc before Psionic Storm and a few Dragoons drive them away. While Chris_Low is busy with his Mutalisk attack, +illusia+'s launches a force of invisible Dark Templar to ambush a herd of Hydralisk bereft of Overlord support. In a dual pronged maneuver, +illusia+ also manages to expand to the upper left expansion with a Shuttle. It turns out however that the light at the end of the tunnel was an on-coming train after all when a enormous swarm of Zerglings and Hydralisks supported by Overlords to detect the cunning Dark Templar pushes up the ramp into +illusia+'s town and leaves it a smoking ruin. +illusia+ has no choice but to surrender and look to the next battle…

DIRE STRAITS

Match Two

Players:
Chris_Low - ZERG - Bottom Left
+illusia+ - PROTOSS - Bottom Right

Game Length: 44:07

In the chat room one of the Observers, Warblade! lamented that every game seemed to be on Lost Temple and it would be great if other maps were used as well. The players agreed and decided wage their war on the Dire Straights. Chris_Low selected random to hide his true identity and +illusia+ again selected the vaunted Protoss. The game commences as Chris_Low finds himself exuding creep in the bottom left corner commanding the Zerg with +illusia+ encamped in the bottom right hand corner.

Chris_Low immediately sends out an Overlord to hunt down the haughty Protoss and finds their main base of operations. He once again builds a second Hatchery to spawn the endless legions of the swarm as well as an Extractor to provide for the air fleet and Overlord upgrades that will be required for victory. Before long he evolves both of his Hatcheries into Lairs so that he can research both Ventral Sacs and Pneumatized Carapace at the same time. +illusia+ immediately charges forward towards building the mighty Templar by warping in a Gateway, Cybernetics Core and Citadel of Adun in rapid succession. He then completes most of the tech tree he needs by building a Robotics Factory, Forge and the needed Templar Archives. He provides a stout defense with a number of Photon Cannons ringing his base in a grim circle of death.

Chris_Low starts to gather a horde of Hydralisks and Overlords for a Hydralisk drop while sending an Overlord to expand out to the middle bottom expansion. +illusia+ at the same time expanded to the top center expansion while producing the vaunted High Templar. Chris_Low continues to expand his empire by taking the top left center expansion and in the process he finds +illusia+'s expansion as well. Chris_Low decides the time is ripe to attack, dropping off a dozen Hydralisks on to this expansion and completely destroying it in a spray of spines and slime while losing a mere 3 Hydralisks in the process.

In a counterstrike far away from the last attack +illusia+ drops off a pair of Zealots and a pair of High Templar on Chris_Low's bottom middle expansion attempting to destroy the expansion and the Sunken Colony that defends it. Chris_Low brings in 4 Hydralisks in a valiant effort to try and save the expansion, but they are wiped out by the chaotic lightning of a templar Psionic Storm. Before long more Hydralisks are dropped on to the scene and this proves to be enough to save the base from destruction and turn the Protoss warriors into wisps of psionic smoke.

Psionic Storm seems to be the order of the day as +illusia+ drops off two more Templar in Chris_Low's main base and with them severely damages the resource gathering there by destroying many of the drones harvesting. Elsewhere Chris_Low fights back against the invasion of templar with Scourge, by exploding a shuttle containing a pair of them, the templar only surviving by bailing out of the doomed Shuttle at the last moment.

Chris_Low is outproducing +illusia+ at this point with two expansions harvesting and with Overlords watching all of the available island expansions things are looking quite grim for the Protoss. Both of the combatants expand again however, with +illusia+ just able to hold on to his new expansion by Psionic Storming the dozen Hydralisks and Mutalisks and watching their drained shells fall to the cold earth. A second attempt to take the expansion from +illusia+ fails as well with psionic storm and Photon Cannons knocking the attacking Mutalisk from the sky like so many pesky insects. +illusia+ makes Chris_Low pay for these attacks though by once more bringing high templar in to his base to Psionic Storming away another large group of Drones.

By now Chris_Low's islands are connected by a maze of Nydus Canals and he begins the production of a force of powerful Guardians to destroy the Photon Cannons that has plagued him. He takes these Guardians and attacks +illusia+'s top right base, but the timely arrival of a few nimble Corsairs drives the Guardians away. The base is then violently assaulted again with eight Overlords worth of Hydralisks and Zerglings with the air support of Guardians and Devourers to boot. The base survives battered and with cold blue flames coming from many a building, but intact after psionic storm destroys the attacking ground troops and the Guardians.

The kid gloves are now off and the battle begins in earnest as +illusia+'s middle right expansion is placed under siege by a mixed force of Mutalisks, Guardians and massive Devourers. Even the large group of Carriers that are sent in are unable to stem the tide of Chris_Low's air armada taking severe hull damage in the process. The battered and bruised carriers return home while Chris_Low completely destroys this expansion as well as +illusia+'s top middle expansion leaving only a trail of slime and destruction in his wake.

Now +illusia+ makes an attack of his own, sending his Carrier fleet in to destroy Chris_Low's bottom middle expansion. After a few minutes of tense maneuvering back and forth, groups of Mutalisks so large they blot out the sun completely overwhelm the Carriers and send them to their deaths. With the pride of the Protoss air fleet destroyed, so are the Protoss chances of victory eliminated as well. +illusia+ can do nothing as the Zerg swarms of Guardians, Mutalisks, Zerglings and Devourers blot his forces from the face of the islands and leave the Zerg to cover this planet with their foul creep.

Victor: Chris_Low
