CrazyJim~LiZarD vs. Kain-The-Feared
Battleground:

THE LOST TEMPLE

Match One

Players:
CrazyJim~LiZarD - PROTOSS - Bottom Center
Kain-The-Feared - PROTOSS - Center Right

Game Length: 26:10

This quarterfinal match begins with the both combatants choosing to command the Noble Protoss as their fighting forces. CrazyJim~LiZard decides that the first confrontation will take place on the ancient Protoss battleground surrounding the Lost Temple. The conflict begins with CrazyJim at the bottom middle plateau, with his opposing number, Kain-The-Feared, located at the middle right. Both commanders begin the frantic production of probes to jumpstart their respective economies for the upcoming conflagration. War prayers are said, Pylons are erected, and both players begin their reconnaissance efforts by ordering robotic probes to the likely locations of their enemies. CrazyJim decides to send two probes on this dangerous duty, while Kain decides to only send one and maintains a slight economic advantage over his rival.

Both players warp in Gateways to allow for the materialization of their warriors onto the battlefield, but that is where their battlefield construction plans diverge. Kain eschews immediate construction of a second Gateway to begin Vespene gas production as soon as possible while CrazyJim follows a favorite pattern of Protoss commanders by erecting a second Gateway. The reconnoitering probes quickly find the opposing enemy bases, and CrazyJim's probe beats a hasty retreat after making the crucial discovery. Kain moves his probe outside of the watchful eye of CrazyJim's units, but keeps it nearby to later divine the plans of his enemy. With a war cry the first Zealot emerges from CrazyJim's Gateway, and is then shortly ordered to attack Kain's base. Kain is prepared though, as he has already warped in a second Gateway and a Cybernetics Core, and before the first enemy Zealot can engage Kain's forces a fallen Protoss warrior in a Dragoon is waiting for him. CrazyJim deftly avoids the Dragoon to instead try and hurt Kain's economic efforts by attacking his Probes. Two of the robotic workers are destroyed before the nearby Dragoon, with the help of a newly materialized Dragoon reinforcement, can dispatch the marauding Zealot. Kain quickly moves his Dragoons to the upper edge of the ramp as watchful defenders against more incoming assailants.

This proves to be a wise move, as CrazyJim was indeed already sending two more Zealot warriors on their way. Seeing the Dragoons destroy his first Zealot incursion, CrazyJim retreats with his Zealots to a similar position at the top of the ramp leading to his base. Knowing that Kain has a temporary advantage with his Dragoons, CrazyJim begins to construct a Forge, as well as a Pylon near the ramp entrance to his base. Kain meanwhile is working to improve the efficacy of his Dragoon assault force by researching the Singularity Charge upgrade. He also answers the construction of the enemy Forge with one of his own. Kain decides to try and take up a forward position below the plateau base of his enemy. A small skirmish breaks out as three of Kain's Dragoons tries to assault up the ramp, but four Zealots await and a deadly dance ensues. Kain tries to use the ranged weaponry of his Dragoons to his advantage by retreating wounded Dragoons away from the Zealots and their feared Psi Blades, but the Zealots prevail in this struggle.

CrazyJim reinforces his defense with two Photon Cannons, and Dragoons of his own to match the firepower of Kain's Dragoon force. Kain's strategy then becomes apparent when he places a line of Dragoons in the valley below CrazyJim's base. Kain hopes to prevent any probe or army from gaining access to the rich mineral and vespene wealth that lies on the battlefield. CrazyJim has the perfect response prepared, as he warps in a Robotic Facility. As Kain's forward battlegroup is augmented by more and more Protoss Dragoons, CrazyJim warps in a Shuttle, and immediately sends a Probe to the far upper left corner island. This Probe hastily warps in Pylons, then Photon Cannons and a Nexus. CrazyJim also climbs the technology tree rapidly by constructing a Robotics Support Bay, Citadel of Adun, and Templar Archives. Meanwhile, Kain wisely realizes his base is underdefended and erects Photon Cannons in and around the base. Reavers join the army of CrazyJim, and one reinforces the defense of the critical ramp to his base. A series of skirmishes ensue between the defense forces of CrazyJim and the Dragoons that lie in waiting outside his base. Each commander tries to lure each other's forces into a deadly crossfire, but few casualties occur as each side disengages beyond the weaponry of their enemy.

Realizing that the stalemate must be broken soon, CrazyJim calls upon the mysterious Dark Templar to come to his aid. He loads a Reaver, Probe, and Dark Templar on to the shuttle and heads towards Kain's base. The Photon Cannon defense around Kain's base structures proves too strong, and the Shuttle is forced to retreat. CrazyJim unloads the probe and Reaver to the nearby ramp of the top upper starting postion, and begins a Photon Cannon blockade to defend this area when he tries to expand. However, Kain has already constructed a new Nexus in that very same resource area! Kain has even erected Photon Cannons as a defense, but the two forces lie outside each other's visual range and so they build blissfully unaware of each others existance.

Kain, not knowing about CrazyJim's island expansion, believes his Dragoons have completely pinned in the enemy. Several of Kain's dragoons, along several Observers, are combing the map searching for possible expansions. CrazyJim has another surprise awaiting Kain, as the powerful High Templar joins the fray outside CrazyJim's base. The murderous crackle of a Psionic Storm falls upon Kain's Dragoons, and Zealots, Dragoons, and Reavers pour down the ramp into what becomes a deadly melee. With the support of two Reavers and Psionic Storm, CrazyJim's Zealots and Dragoons prevail on the battlefield below. Sensing a strong advantage, CrazyJim orders his ground forces to continue towards Kain's main base of operations. CrazyJim has also dispatched the Reaver nearby Kain's upper middle base to engage the defending Photon Cannons. Using the long range of the Scarab the lone Reaver stays outside of the range of the Cannons, and begins to methodically eliminate the expansion.

With his starting minerals depleted to fuel his war machine, and his new expansion in flames, Kain quickly moves to expand in the valley beneath his starting plateau. Kain constructs a makeshift defense of Zealots and Dragoons to defend the attempt. These forces are immediately called upon, as the assault force of CrazyJim joins battle with the fate of the expansion at stake. Again, the immense ground attack power of the Reaver is the deciding factor. Many of Kain's Zealots and Dragoons die with each exploding Scarab. The path to Kain's newly created Nexus is laid bare, and CrazyJim's remaining Dragoons and Reaver burn the Nexus to the ground. Even a Dark Templar cannot turn the tide in Kain's favor, as a nearby Observer spots the assassin and CrazyJim's Zealots destroy their cloaked cousin. With no source of resources available to him, Kain can do little to stop the onslaught of Zealots, Dragoons, and Archons into his main base and he honorably surrenders to CrazyJim's forces.

CrazyJim~LiZarD vs. Kain-The-Feared
Battleground:

DIRE STRAITS

Match Two

Players:
CrazyJim~LiZarD - PROTOSS - Bottom Left
Kain-The-Feared - PROTOSS - Bottom Right

Game Length: 30:39

The combatants now turn their attention to the island fortress of Dire Straits. Once again both commanders choose the Protoss to lead the charge onto the battlefield. CrazyJim~LiZard begins his campaign on the bottom left island, while Kain-The-Feared materializes on the bottom right landmass. Probes immediately spring into action, and quickly both players construct Pylons to extend their psionic influence. Kain assembles a Gateway, but CrazyJim has other ideas, and begins warping an Assimilator into existence. As swarms of probes join their robotic brethren, each base blossoms forth with new buildings. CrazyJim builds a Gateway, Cybernetics Core, and then Citadel of Adun, while Kain makes the fateful decision to build a Robotics Facility instead of a Citadel of Adun.

Quickly, the two foes' battle plans begin to take shape. Kain summons a few Dragoons, and a Shuttle emerges from his recently completed Robotics Facility. Loading up a Dragoon into the transport, Kain orders the Shuttle to the west. It isn't long before the robotic transport stumbles across CrazyJim's base of operations and silently drops the Dragoon behind the mineral patches where CrazyJim's probes are harvesting unsuspectingly. As the Dragoon decimates the Probes, a lone Dark Templar emerges from a Gateway bent on revenge. Kain spots the shimmer of the cloaked assassin, and moves the Dragoon away from his impending death. CrazyJim soon adds his own Dragoon to complement his Dark Templar, and Kain's Shuttle is forced to leave the area, abandoning the Dragoon. Aware of the Dark Templar's presence, but unable to target it's shimmering invisibility, the Dragoon dedicates his last moments to destroying more Probes before succumbing to the Warp Blades of the assassin.

Meanwhile, both players add new capabilities to their arsenal. CrazyJim completes a Robotics Facility, and uses a Shuttle to ferry a Dark Templar to Kain's base to surprise his enemy. Kain however has already constructed a Forge and the Photon Cannons necessary to repel the Shuttle, which is forced to limp away with severe structural damage. Kain now has time to complete the buildings necessary for the production of his own Dark Templar. With so much of the war now escalating into cloaking, both players warp in observatories to supply the Observers required to detect each other. CrazyJim now realizes he must control the air and moves swiftly to warp in a Stargate: a decision that would prove decisive in the upcoming battle.

As Observers for both players spread out across the map spreading their web of detection, Kain quickly discovers CrazyJim's newly warped island expansion. Knowing this base must be crushed immediately before it can be leveraged against him, Kain orders two of his Dragoons into a shuttle, and successfully unloads them onto the lightly defended island. But the shuttle is forced to turn back when CrazyJim's first Corsair arrives on the scene with its Neutron Flare blazing. This strands the Dragoons, and soon CrazyJim shuttles a Dark Templar to the island to begin slicing the Dragoons apart. Kain's effort to reveal the Dark Templar with an Observer is thwarted by the brooding vigilance of CrazyJim's Corsair now aided by its own Observer. Kain desperately attempts to regain the momentum by beginning his own expansion just north of his base, but one of CrazyJim's patrolling Observers quickly spots the maneuver.

Kain rapidly tries to reinforce the battleground by summoning Dark Templar, Observers, and Dragoons, but CrazyJim's Corsairs have already arrived. The Corsairs immediately wreck the fragile Observers watching over the fight, then take up guarding positions to prevent any more reinforcements from arriving via Shuttle. CrazyJim then unleashes his own Dark Templar onto the island, and without a friendly Observer or completed Photon Cannon to sense the location of their attackers, Kain's forces fall to a handful of Dark Templar. Kain tries to answer this major setback by loading two High Templar onto a shuttle for a quick strike at the Probes fueling CrazyJim's war machine, but CrazyJim has cagily placed Dragoons along the island edge facing Kain's base. The shuttle faces a withering crossfire, and just as it appears the Shuttle will escape to unload the Templar, one last Phase Disruptor bolt shatters the transport and ends the threat.

CrazyJim now begins a methodical search for Kain's Observers in the field, employing his own Observers as watchdogs to find the telltale warp signature of cloaked units. He begins erecting a powerful blockade of Observers and Corsairs to try and pin Kain to his solitary island fortress. All the while, CrazyJim continues to press the momentum of his advantage by expanding his resource collection effort, choosing the middle left island as his next location.

Kain, starved to dangerously low levels of Minerals, makes one last attempt to expand to the area he already lost. Unknown to him is the fact that CrazyJim has spotted his efforts and was biding his time, waiting for the reinforcement from the two Carriers he had started to construct from his Starports. Anticipating the deathblow, Kain ferries several High Templar and Dragoons onto the island to try and defend his final source of resources. Soon after, CrazyJim's completes his forces, with the two Carriers online and loaded with Interceptors and the Corsairs' Disruption Web generators armed and ready for action. Now the final attack would begin. Photon Cannons are quickly disabled by the Corsair's Disruption Web, while swarms of interceptors launch from the Carriers' bays and begin to raze Kain's defensive structures to rubble. Kain unleashes the fury of Psionic Storm against his attackers, but the Carriers are able to withstand the onslaught, and his defenses crumble and are laid to waste. With his army and base in ruins, Kain quietly surrenders to CrazyJim, while vowing revenge for the defeat he faced today.
