+illusia+ vs. [33]Aviatrix
Battleground:

SNOWBOUND

Match One

Players:
+illusia+ - PROTOSS
[33]Aviatrix - ZERG

In Game one, +illusia+ chooses to command the mighty forces of the Protoss, while [33]Aviatrix elects to throw his fates to the wind, chooses Random, and is given the Zerg hordes to control.

+illusia+ begins the game in the top position, and quickly expands. And although he does not choose to fortify immediately, [33]Aviatrix is too busy with his own expansion plans to send in any early attacks against the Protoss. Having started at the bottom of the map, [33]Aviatrix has elected to expand, but he leaves behind a mass of Hydralisks to guard the entry points into his domain. He soon expands to the resource node in the lower middle location, positioning more Hydralisks to stand guard.

By this point in the game, [33]Aviatrix has scouted the map with an Overlord upgraded for increased speed, and is ready to attempt a Hydralisk drop into +illusia+'s expansion base. +illusia+ has since fortified his holdings with Photon Cannons and High Templar since the last Overlord scouting and the Zerg assault. Is easily disrupted. [33]Aviatrix has moved his Hydralisks from the lower resource location and +illusia+ sneaks in to set up a full, well-defended expansion.

The celebration of this coup is short lived, however, as [33]Aviatrix sends in a fleet of Hydralisk-laden Overlords into the main base of +illusia+. Although the bloody battle could have gone either way, the tight defenses of +illusia+'s main base, coupled with well placed Psionic Storms, allowed the Protoss to win the day.

These two skirmishes granted [33]Aviatrix time enough to expand across much of the map. He carefully left Zergling, Hydralisks, and Scourge patrolling the potential hot spots of the map that made scouting and expanding extremely difficult for +illusia+. When +illusia+ does try to set up and fortify a base in the lower right corner of the map, [33]Aviatrix swoops in with wings of Devourers, Mutalisks, and Guardians and wipes it from the face of the planet. +illusia+ is now starting to run out of resources at his old bases, and could be in some trouble…

However, during these early fights +illusia+ has been able to construct some Stargates and has finally amassed a formidable air force of Carriers and Corsairs. Using these to escort a Shuttle filled with Reavers, +illusia+ attacks the force of Hydralisks that [33]Aviatrix has patrolling the left-most resource node. Although the Reaver is lost in the assault, the rest of his fleet stands strong. +illusia+ then moves east and another attack is commenced. A huge battle ensues, involving +illusia+'s air fleet and the Hydralisks, Mutalisks, Spore Colonies, Scourge and Devourers defending [33]Aviatrix's base. After a few minutes of devastating combat, the Protoss prevail!

+illusia+ moves his assault force onward to the main base of [33]Aviatrix, and with a resounding final attack clinches the victory.

Battleground:

THE LOST TEMPLE

Match Two

Players:
+illusia+ - PROTOSS
[33]Aviatrix - PROTOSS

Both [33]Aviatrix and +illusia+ elect to command Protoss forces for game 2, and begin with standard build orders. They continue to mirror each other's moves by sending out Probes to scout the area surrounding their main bases. +illusia+ finds [33]Aviatrix's base first, and sees a group of Zealots being warped in through his enemy's Gateway. [33]Aviatrix quickly sends his Zealots after the spying Probe, and then happens upon +illusia+ to discover that he has only a pair of Zealots defending the ramp leading to his main base.

[33]Aviatrix pushes into the enemy base and a desperate melee breaks out. Although +illusia+ has Dragoons training, his defending group of Zealots is outmatched and are forced to play cat-and-mouse with the larger attacking force in order to buy time for reinforcements to arrive. Valuable Probes are brought in to assist with the defense, and [33]Aviatrix's Zealots are finally defeated.

After this close call, [33]Aviatrix trains Dark Templar, Zealots and Dragoons, while +illusia+ focuses all of his production on Dragoons. +illusia+ sets his mechanical walkers at the top of his ramp, waiting to repel any further assaults. +illusia+ is forced once again onto the defensive as [33]Aviatrix attacks with his Dark Templar. Realizing that he has not built any units with detection capabilities, +illusia+ scramble to keep his defenders alive while he waits for his Robotics Factory to construct a much-needed Observer. After another close call, and another heated battle, +illusia+ manages a successful defense.

The action slows for a few minutes as [33]Aviatrix expands upwards and +illusia+ expands to the left. [33]Aviatrix defends his expansion with Cannons, Dragoons, High Templar, Dark Templar and Zealots while +illusia+ continues his single-minded production of Dragoons. When he has reached a critical mass of Dragoons, he marches them up to [33]Aviatrix's expansion. After a well coordinated series of attacks and retreats, the expansion finally falls, leaving +illusia+ with a good number of his Dragoons remaining and [33]Aviatrix with a severely depleted group of defenders for his main base. Although the tactic of non-mixed force was a risky one, it pays off as +illusia+ takes the victory and proceeds onto the next round of play.

Victor: +illusia+
