CrazyJim~LiZarD was given the honor of choosing the first battlefield for his match with Chris_Low, and it comes as no surprise that he chooses his favorite battlefield, the Dire Straits. Both commanders decide to use the mighty Protoss as their armies for the upcoming confrontation. The winds of fate blow the two across the map, with CrazyJim~LiZarD finding his Nexus at the top left island and Chris_Low taking station across the seas at the bottom right island. Probes begin harvesting minerals, and the two commanders plot the strategies they will use in the conflict to come.

CrazyJim~LiZarD chooses to pursue a strategy that has been very successful in the past. Feeling that no early attack is possible when on an isolated island, he forgoes building combat units and concentrates instead on constructing the buildings necessary for producing Dark Templar and Shuttles. A Pylon, Assimilator, Gateway, and Cybernetics Core are built in quick succession, followed by a Citadel of Adun and Robotics Facility. While the Robotics Facility is warping into existence, hallowed Templar Archives also begin shimmering into place. With well-practiced timing CrazyJim~LiZarD builds a Shuttle, places a Probe into its bay, then loads a Dark Templar that has just appeared from his Gateway. The Probe is dropped off at a nearby island, then CrazyJim~LiZarD scouts out the battlefield in earnest with the Shuttle.

Chris_Low, having gathered intelligence about Jim's tactics from prior battle reports, decides upon a strategy designed to counter the power and elusiveness of the Dark Templar. Chris builds the necessary Pylons, Gateway and Cybernetics Core key to most every Protoss strategy, but unlike his counterpart builds a second Gateway and forgoes the Citadel of Adun and Templar Archives to instead concentrate on the production of Dragoons. Chris_Low also builds a Robotics Facility and Observatory, knowing that mobile cloak detection will be a crucial element in the upcoming battle.

When CrazyJim~LiZarD finally does spot Chris_Low's base at the bottom right island, he immediately sends the Dark Templar on a mission of destruction. Chris_Low is well prepared for the Dark Templar, with 4 Dragoons and an Observer overhead keeping a watchful eye on the battlefield. The Dark Templar is dispatched with ease, and Chris_Low begins a counterattack with his Dragoons. Loading the four Dragoons into two Shuttles, he orders the strike force to head towards CrazyJim~LiZarD's base with an Observer scanning for enemies in their wake. Chris_Low had already used his first Shuttle to find the location of his enemy, and was merely biding his time and waiting for CrazyJim~LiZarD's Dark Templar assassin to die before beginning his attack.

CrazyJim~LiZarD intercepts the Shuttles en route to his base with two nimble Corsairs, but the robotic transports cannot be destroyed before they unload their lethal Dragoon cargo on an island just to the Southeast of CrazyJim~LiZarD's base. The Dragoons force the Corsairs to retreat with modest damage and more importantly both Shuttles still remain intact. Now knowing that an attack on his main island fortress is imminent, CrazyJim~LiZarD sends his lone Dragoon to a position along the South edge of his island and begins building reinforcements. Chris_Low waits for his Shuttles to recharge some of their shields and be joined by a third Shuttle carrying two more Dragoons before commencing his attack run. The single Dragoon and two Corsairs of CrazyJim~LiZarD cannot stop the three Shuttles from unloading their Dragoons, and suddenly CrazyJim~LiZarD finds himself with a severe problem on his hands.

Chris_Low's six Dragoons immediately attack the one enemy Dragoon, and the lone warrior quickly falls to a barrage of Phase Disruptor fire. The Corsairs, unable to attack the Dragoons, are driven away from the battle. A Dark Templar attempts to hold off the Dragoons, but Chris_Low has a nearby Observer ready, and without his protective cloaking field the Dark Templar is easily killed. The Dragoons engage the two Photon Cannons guarding CrazyJim~LiZarD's base, and although a few of the Dragoons are torn to pieces by the antimatter spheres of the Cannons, the rest continue the relentless barrage. Additional defenders warp in seeking vengeance for their crippled base, but these new Dragoons are always outnumbered and destroyed. CrazyJim~LiZarD makes a last ditch effort to destroy the invaders with his precious Probes, but even this desperation move fails. When two more of Chris_Low's fresh Dragoons land on the island the fate of the base is sealed. Unable to stop the eventual destruction of his primary base of operations, CrazyJim~LiZarD surrenders.

WINTER CONQUEST

Match Two

Chris_Low and CrazyJim~LiZarD once again take to the field, but this time the fighting takes place upon the snowy ground of Winter Conquest. Chris_Low chooses to lead the Zerg Horde and finds himself at the northernmost starting position on the battlefield, while CrazyJim~LiZarD commands his Protoss force from the upper left plateau. As the battle begins, both players begin harvesting resources and Chris_Low sends his Overlord to the southwest on a scouting mission. Gambling that CrazyJim~LiZarD will not be found nearby, Chris_Low decides to produce his secondary Hatchery at the nearby set of mineral patches first before evolving a Spawning Pool. His Overlord then reports back the bad news: CrazyJim~LiZarD's base is way too close for comfort.

Possibly spotting the Overlord overhead coming from the North, CrazyJim~LiZarD sends a Probe to scout for Chris_Low's base and begins Zealot production from his first Gateway. The Probe enters Chris_Low's base, and begins to harass the Drones as they harvest. The Probe plays a game of cat and mouse with the enemy workers, forcing a few Drones to stop working and defend themselves. The game becomes much more deadly when CrazyJim~LiZarD brings a Zealot into the fight. Chris_Low has already evolved his Spawning Pool, but he lacks any Zerglings or Sunken Colonies to fend off the marauding Zealot. Chris_Low sends several of his defenseless Drones to his now completed expansion to try and mitigate the damage the Zealot will cause. A few Drones are killed before four Zerglings can be hatched and the immediate threat ends when the voracious Zerglings tear the Zealot to pieces. Another Zealot enters the fray, but the defending Zerglings are reinforced by several more freshly hatched from Chris_Low's now complete secondary Hatchery. Chris_Low begins evolving yet another Hatchery at the nearby group of mineral patches.

Two more Zealots emerge from CrazyJim~LiZarD's pair of Gateways and begin the short trek to Chris_Low's base, but this time they are met and repulsed by Zerglings before even reaching their target. The Zealots retreat with Zerglings following close behind, but the situation becomes reversed when two more noble Zealots meet their compatriots near CrazyJim~LiZarD's base. Now the Zerglings are the ones to turn tail and flee back home.

Fearing the resource advantage Chris_Low will soon have with his Hatcheries at two separate resource nodes, CrazyJim~LiZarD decides to perform a risky maneuver. He pulls 4 probes off of harvesting duty to add to the six Zealots he commands, and proceeds to attack Chris_Low with the combined force. When the Protoss strike force arrives at the edge of Chris_Low's creep, a Sunken Colony and 10 Zerglings meet them and a nearby Creep Colony is already morphing into a Sunken Colony to provide further support. The Zealots and Probes come close to destroying one of the Sunken Colonies, but the Zerg defense line holds.

Chris_Low continues to evolve Zerglings as fast as his three Hatcheries are able to produce Larva, and quickly counterattacks with 12 Zerglings. Two new Zealots meet the Zerglings at the top of CrazyJim~LiZarD's ramp, but the superior numbers of the Zerg force prevails. Chris_Low then spots a key flaw in the construction of CrazyJim~LiZarD's base: only one Pylon powers both of CrazyJim~LiZarD's Gateways. He immediately orders his Zerglings to tear the key Pylon down, and suddenly CrazyJim~LiZarD's Gateways are no longer within the Psionic Matrix the Protoss use to connect their buildings. Now unable to produce more defending troops and knowing more Zerglings are inevitably on the way, CrazyJim~LiZarD surrenders and Chris_Low is declared the winner of this semifinal match.
